Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This policy explains what personal data Voyamemo collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than in legal boilerplate.
Who is responsible
Voyamemo is the data controller for the personal data described here. If you have a question about your data, or want to exercise any of the rights below, contact us:
Galgeveldstraat 659, 3293 Kaggevinne, Belgium[email protected]
What we collect
Only what the service needs in order to work:
- Your account: your email address, your display name, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google instead of a password.
- What you publish: your journal entries, photos, videos, trip details and map locations. This is your content — see our Terms for what that means.
- Subscribers: the email address of anyone who asks to follow a journey, plus the date they confirmed.
- Comments: the name, email address and message of anyone who comments on a day. The email address is not published.
- Invitations: the email address of anyone invited to help edit a Voyamemo.
- Email delivery records: whether a notification we sent was delivered or failed, so we do not send it twice or keep mailing a dead address.
What we deliberately do not collect
We do not log visitors' IP addresses, browsers or locations. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics or tracking scripts. We do not build profiles of the people who read your travel blog, and we do not sell personal data to anyone.
Why we are allowed to use it
Under the GDPR we need a legal basis for each use:
- Performance of a contract — running your account and publishing your blog.
- Consent — sending journey updates to subscribers, which they opt into and can withdraw at any time.
- Legitimate interests — keeping the service secure and working, and preventing abuse.
- Legal obligation — where the law requires us to keep records.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of service providers, who process data only on our instructions:
- Cloudinary — stores and delivers your photos and videos.
- Mailgun — sends our emails, such as journey updates and password resets.
- Our hosting provider — runs the application and the database.
Some of these providers operate outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
How long we keep it
Account data and published content are kept for as long as your account exists. Delete a photo or an entry and it goes; close your account and everything goes, apart from backup copies that expire on our normal backup cycle. Subscribers are removed as soon as they unsubscribe. Email delivery records are kept for a short period so that we do not resend messages.
Invoices we have issued are an exception. Belgian bookkeeping law requires us to keep them for ten years, so they are not deleted when you close your account. They contain the name, address and any VAT number you gave for billing, and nothing else about you.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your data and close your account.
- Export your data in a machine-readable format you can take elsewhere.
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, a particular use.
- Withdraw consent — every email we send carries an unsubscribe link.
Do it yourself, right now
You do not have to write to us. Signed in, you can download everything we hold about you, or delete your account permanently, from one page.
Sign in to manage your dataComplaints
If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first — we would rather fix it. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In Belgium that is the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données (www.dataprotectionauthority.be).
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and its date. Significant changes will be announced to account holders by email.
